Serving with Purpose: Will Mathee’s Commitment to Community

For Will Mathee, volunteering with The Gathering started long before joining the Board of Directors. Through his work in banking, Will was introduced to Lyn Hildenbrand and became familiar with The Gathering as a customer and community partner. The mission immediately stood out to him — especially the organization’s commitment to serving neighbors with dignity and consistency.

After years of volunteering alongside the organization, Will was invited to join the board about a year and a half ago. Stepping into a leadership role felt like a natural next step for someone already deeply connected to the work and the people behind it.

“The mission inspired me to get involved,” Will shared. “It feels fantastic to be part of a team that serves the community every single week.”

One of the most meaningful parts of the experience for Will has been serving alongside his family. His mom and dad also volunteer with The Gathering, making service something they share together.

Will says what keeps him coming back is simple: the people.

“The people we serve and the people I serve beside make this experience special,” he said. “The board is great, and it’s rewarding to be part of something that truly impacts the community.”

Whether volunteering at meal sites or helping guide the organization through board service, Will’s dedication reflects the heart of The Gathering’s mission — showing up, building relationships, and caring for the community together.
