Volunteer Spotlight: Cathy Stagmer & Team Komatsu

For Cathy Stagmer, volunteering is more than an activity—it's a lifelong commitment to serving others and strengthening the community.

As Social Responsibility Manager at Komatsu, Cathy has spent the last 16 years helping connect employees with meaningful volunteer opportunities. Her role focuses on building partnerships with nonprofit organizations and encouraging team members to give their time and talents to causes that make a difference.

Cathy's passion for community service began at an early age. Inspired by her parents, who regularly involved her in volunteer work and community outreach, she learned the importance of giving back and helping those in need. Those early experiences shaped a commitment that continues to guide her today.

Throughout the year, Cathy and Team Komatsu volunteer at The Gathering and other community organizations at least four times annually, with additional volunteer efforts during the Thanksgiving and holiday seasons. The team often brings interns along to participate, helping introduce the next generation to the value of community service. A typical volunteer group includes about 10 team members, with even larger groups joining during the holidays.

When asked what keeps them coming back, Cathy's answer is simple: it's about helping the community.

“We want to help as much as we can and give back whenever possible,” she shared.

That spirit of service is evident in every volunteer event. Team members genuinely enjoy spending time together while making a positive impact on the lives of others. Their volunteer groups often include retirees who continue to dedicate their time to serving the community, demonstrating that the desire to help others never fades.

Over the years, Cathy has also witnessed the lasting impact of volunteerism. Some children who grew up coming to The Gathering with their families have continued the tradition of service into adulthood, creating a powerful cycle of giving back.

For Cathy and Team Komatsu, volunteering is about more than completing a task—it's about building connections, supporting neighbors, and strengthening the community. Their dedication serves as a reminder that even a few hours of service can make a meaningful difference.

Thank you, Cathy, and Team Komatsu, for your continued commitment to serving others and helping make our community a better place for everyone.
