Feed Milwaukee, Together!

The Gathering depends on individuals each day to help feed neighbors in need. From sorting food and packing healthy food boxes for seniors, to assisting guests at the Mobile Market and harvesting at The Farm, there are many ways to make a difference. Explore the volunteer opportunities below to find the best fit for you.

Serve Breakfast

Start the day by serving our neighbors with care and dignity—The Gathering needs your help with breakfast at our Running Rebels location. Volunteer on your own or bring a group.

Join a cook team

Individuals are welcome to join a current Saturday Lunch Cook Team or start there own!  Shifts are available once every 4-6 weeks. Menus, supplies and training provided.

Prepare bag lunches

Help meet a critical need in our community by preparing bag lunches to distribute between meals at our sites. Bag lunches can be assembled off-site at your school, church, or organization.

Serve Lunch

Serve lunch—on your own or with a group—at one of The Gathering’s meal sites. Choose the location that works best for you and help us serve our neighbors with care and dignity.

Coordinate a meal site

Help lead our Saturday meal sites by welcoming and directing volunteer serving groups. Shifts are 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. once every 4–6 weeks at one of our three main lunch locations.

FRESH FOOD PRESERVATION PROGRAM

Help wash, chop, blanch, freeze, and can fresh produce so it can be used to nourish our community year-round. Shifts are available with dates scheduled seasonally based on produce donation deliveries.

Serve dinner

Help serve dinner and provide a warm, welcoming meal for our neighbors in need. Volunteers assist with meal service, hospitality, and keeping things running smoothly.

Become a board member

The Gathering is guided by a 21-member Board of Directors elected for terms of three years. If interested, call the Gathering office at 414-272-4122 and ask to speak with the Executive Director.

FOOD RESCUE DRIVER

Food Rescue Drivers visit partner sites to pick up rescued food and deliver it for community meals. This vital role helps eliminate food waste while ensuring more nutritious food reaches neighbors in need.

“I truly believe that each job a volunteer is given, impacts the way the morning comes together and how each one of us serves! We work together to better the world and change others minds about how they may see it....Remember that the smallest act of kindness can add to a big change in happiness.”
