In March, a group of Marquette University students visited The Gathering as part of their Community Partner Project for their workplaces class which collaborated with Marquette’s Service learning Program. What they found was far more than just a food program — it was a well-oiled machine powered by compassion, teamwork, and unwavering commitment. Throughout the day, the students had the opportunity to see every part of the process — from food preparation and cooking to distribution and serving. Each step revealed the care and intentionality behind The Gathering’s work.
“It was amazing to see Lyn and her team in action,” shared Michael Strzalka, a junior at Marquette. “Seeing all the moving parts and the willingness from the volunteers was eye-opening.” What stood out most was the sense of community. From volunteers greeting guests with a smile to the kitchen crew working together seamlessly, it was clear that this was more than just a meal service — it was a mission in motion. The Gathering’s work is a reminder of what can happen when people come together around a shared purpose.
