đź’› The Gathering Celebrates Volunteer Appreciation Month
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month—a time to pause, reflect, and celebrate the incredible individuals who make The Gathering’s mission possible each and every day.
At The Gathering, volunteers are not just part of what we do—they are the heart of everything we do.
Each year, more than 2,000 volunteers give over 13,000 hours of their time to help serve meals, welcome guests, prepare food, and support operations across our sites. Because of them, we are able to provide more than 130,000 meals annually to individuals and families across Milwaukee.
But their impact goes far beyond the numbers.
Every smile, every conversation, every moment of kindness shared creates something deeper—a sense of dignity, belonging, and connection. For many of our guests, The Gathering is more than a place for a meal—it is a place where they are seen, welcomed, and cared for.
Whether it’s a cook team preparing a warm meal, a volunteer greeting guests by name, or a group assembling bag lunches to bridge the gap between services, each act of service plays a vital role in strengthening our community.
Volunteer Appreciation Month is an opportunity to say thank you—but it is also a reminder of the powerful impact of showing up for one another. Our volunteers represent the very best of Milwaukee—individuals, families, schools, faith groups, and organizations who come together with a shared purpose: to care for our neighbors.
To each and every volunteer: thank you. Thank you for your time, your compassion, and your commitment. Because of you, we continue Feeding the Hungry and Keeping Hearts Full—every single day.
If you’ve been looking for a way to give back, we invite you to join us. There is a place for everyone at The Gathering, and your presence can make a meaningful difference.
Together, we are building a stronger, more connected community—one meal, one moment, and one act of kindness at a time.
